Reasons not to take supplements
People consider the supplements as a need of every individual. But it is not so. Only those who are not taking proper diet are advised to take supplements. Another reason to avoid supplements is that it may cause toxicity in the body.
For example, If a person is an adequate diet consumer and additionally consuming supplements then chances of toxicity are there. As the demand for vitamin pills has increased so is the production and introduction of multivitamins by different companies in the market.
But the disappointing fact is that many of these are misbranded and are not even approved by the FDA. Consuming an unapproved or misbranded product may cause complications or severe health effects.
Supplements have some adverse effects too. For example, Vitamin A toxicity can lead to liver function decline, liver failure, loss in brain function (Confusion). It may also cause bone weakness or even baldness.
Excess of everything is bad and that’s why we must be making decisions moderately and wisely. Being a dietitian what I recommend is to take a healthy, balanced diet. A diet that is having the variety from all food groups and involve yourself in some sort of physical activity.
The evidence of the treatment of chronic diseases through supplements is negligible. Consider the supplements that a doctor suggests to you if you ever want to use a supplement for anything or any disease. Never ever choose the supplements on your own, it’s not a good practice at all.
